Nocturnes

During the fall of 2008 and the spring of 2009, I
composed a set of four Nocturnes for solo
piano. The idea for the set came about while I
was writing the first nocturne, at which time I
decided I would write three more pieces each
based on a different motive from the first
nocturne. One of my goals was to approach
the idea of nocturnes, or night music from
several perspectives so that each work was
somewhat distinct and yet, tied together by
related motives taken from the same piece.
