Sun sets low beneath the sky
Leaves all in golden state
Stars glow at edge of twilight
And here I stay, your words await
Goodnight, Goodnight
Sky a shade of midnight blue
Moon in its glowing fate
The world at peace is a calming view
And here I stay, your words await

Distance leaves us far apart
So at midnight if I may
Wish upon the brightest star

This work, scored for wind band and narrator, reflects on the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. The piece blends elements of a funeral march and a lament, and near the end of the piece a moving poem is read over the music by a narrator. (This work is also available for orchestra here)

American Nocturne

The third and final piece in the Magnolia Star trilogy, American Nocturne depicts a nighttime train ride from New Orleans to Chicago. Inspired by the blues scale and the American railroad, the piece includes jazzy riffs and driving rhythms.

Entrata is a work inspired by Gary Green’s photograph “Savannah Church Entrance 2011” and it incorporates music by the English renaissance composer Thomas Tallis.

Twas the Night Before Christmas (SATB + Wind Band)

A new setting of the famous Clement C. Moore poem from 1823. The music helps tell the story of the poem - from the sleepy introduction with everyone tucked into their beds, to the jazzy arrival of St. Nick on the lawn. Available for: SATB Choir + Orchestra (with opt. saxes + euphonium), SATB Choir + Wind Band, or SATB Choir + Piano (with opt. string bass and drum set).

For This Brave New Day (Wind Band)

For This Brave New Day depicts a sunrise and the progression from quiet morning to a day alive with music.

The music of Outlaws comes from the third movement of my piece Three Scenes from Home, which was inspired by my childhood adventures playing in the woods behind our house.

Adagietto (Wind Band)

Based on an original chorale tune and inspired by Grainger’s Irish Tune from County Derry (one of my favorite pieces), this work is a simple yet powerful piece with a soaring melody and rich harmonies.

Mountainscape (Wind Band)

This lyrical work opens with a flute solo, and then a flute/clarinet duet, introducing the theme that is developed throughout the work. The music is inspired by a passage from Isaiah.

Three Scenes from Home (Wind Band)

Three Scenes from Home is comprised of three continuous movements (Bike Ride, Tree House, Outlaws) and is inspired by my childhood adventures playing in the woods behind our house.

Three Tallis Melodies (Flexible)

Grade 3/4

Available as a collection of three arrangements, or individually: “If Ye Love Me,” “Third Mode Melody,” and “Variations on the Tallis Canon.” Scored for 4/5-part flexible instrumentation that can be adapted for nearly any combination of wind, string, and percussion instruments.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel (Flexible)

Inspired by the advent chant melody, this new arrangement begins with a contemplative verse and slowly builds to a glorious climax. Scored for 8-part flexible instrumentation plus optional piano and percussion.
